As a part of Swach Bharat Mission (SBM), Nirgandh has worked closely with the Zila Parishad of Nuh (Haryana) to provide community toilets in 42 villages. These facilities are also designed for specially abled users. A variety of materials like FRP, Cement Boards and Brick and Mortar have been used for these installations.
In order to increase awareness about the need and benefits of safe sanitation, dangers and downside of open defecation and the advantages of the anaerobic technology, the team at Nirgandh worked closely with the SHG groups and the NRLM centre. Individual householdtoilets have been placed at the premises to help choose case the technology and how fecal sludge management can be done on site and the chain can be broken. This installation is suited for a family of 7 – 10.
In order to work on ODF++ and make sanitation sustainable, Nirgandh is working on a pilot project with India Institute of Human Settlement (IIHS) and the Tamilnadu government to retrofit the existing facilities with bio-digesters in Trichy. The biggest advantage of this technology is its success in flood prone areas.
In the Singar cluster, public toilets are being installed to ensure that people in the district have access to a clean and safe toilet at any given point of time. The objective is to not only ensure that each household has a toilet but even the floating population has access to a clean toilet at any given point of time.
15 community toilets have been set up by the district administration in Prithila to ensure that the area remains ODF and the behaviour to defecate in the open continues to be discouraged.
In the trying and challenging times of the pandemic, Nirgandh in collaboration with BMC, UNICEF and LIXIL designed mobile installations for the COVID warriors in Mumbai. The objective of the project was to provide access to safe sanitation to the people who were in the fore front, fighting the battle against the virus.
We believe in providing technology driven affordable sanitation products and services to help stop open defecation, Conserve Water Resources and Reduce/Stop Water Resource Contamination and Stop Manual Scavenging.
